How to get medicines in Switzerland:

You can recognize the regional pharmacies, where you can by their medicines, from the green cross in the shop window or at the entrance.

In every region of Switzerland there is at least one pharmacy, which is opened around the clock for emergencies.

In Switzerland as well as in many other countries, there is a differentiates between prescription and non-prescription drugs. For a prescription drug you need a prescription from your doctor.

Approximately one third of the drugs offered in Switzerland need a prescription. The basic insurance reimburses 90% of these costs.
The non-prescription drugs can be freely purchased as a self-payer or, if an additional insurance is available, you can refer to this for the covearge.

The payment method depends on your health insurance. As a rule, the health insurance company issues an insurance card. These can be presented in the pharmacy and their medicines refer to it. Thereafter, the pharmacy will charge the amount of the insurance and the insurance will require the deductible of 10% of you. In most cases the provider expect you to pay for the medication itself and then submit the receipts of the insurance for a refund.
